The island of Marie-Galante forms part of the Guadeloupe archipelago, a French Caribbean overseas department. The island has about 12,000 inhabitants and the capital is Grand Bourg. In addition, Marie-Galante is relatively flat compared to the surrounding islands and is characterized by its round shape.
